Dropped Frames

scimitar wrote on 1/1/2001, 2:36 PM
Well, after finally getting my Pyro 1394 firewire card to work with my Canon Vistura DV I have Video
Factory and the Canon talking to each other nicely and capturing and printing to tape. While
capturing, I can watch the counter and somehow the computer is not keeping up. The counter will
stop and when it resumes 2 or 3 seconds later a dropped frame is registered (seems like more than
one frame). In one minute of capture I get 15 to 20 of these skips ( which register as 15 to 20
dropped frames) which really look bad when I print to tape or preview on camera.

I am using:
ADS Pyro 1394 firewire card
Canon DV Vistura
Windows ME
128 MB Ram
5400 RPM separate hardrive
Closing background programs and tray programs.

The dedicated 4.3 gig hard drive I am using does have an old copy of windows on it that I can't get off
no matter what I try. I don't know if this is trying to run and slows down the drive. I'm pretty certain that
my 'puter boots to the other Windows and runs it. I have a new hard drive coming that runs 7200 rpm
and will be completely dedicated without anything on it. I could double my RAM fairly cheaply too if
need be.

Please help and thanks in advance.

Todd

PS: Seems like a great product. Just gotta get my hardware to dance fast enough.

Hi Todd,

I also have Pyro Firewire Card I believe with TI chip.
My harddrive is on a PYRO/ADS harddrive enclosure that is
a 40GB UDMA/100 (7200 rpm Samsung Brand)
that seems to have enough bandwidth to handle the print to
tape requirement.

I have btw Sony TV11 vcam.

Also please see posting 225.

Good luck,

Gilbert

I appreciate the "civilian" response, but still highly anticipate help from the kind patient support techs
trying to help folk work through all these growing pains of Video Factory. Seems like a great program.
Just gotta get through this learning stage.

Thanks in advance

Is DMA enabled on the drive? You may have better luck with
the 7200 rpm drive.

Thanks for your reply. I have a ATA/66 Quantum drive on the way. 7200 rpm, 8.5 seek , 2MB buffer.
I'm really not sure what my current drive is set up to do.

Thanks for you guys helping in this forum format.
