when i hit play, the video plays slower and kind of patchy, when i replay it, it is also slow and patchy. please help!

I am using a Sony handycam dcr-trv280 to a dell inspiron, i imported videos in the past, its been a year or so and i cant seem to figure this out.

Could be that something is physically broken. Test your camcorder and firewire cable on another pc. If if works fine there, the cause must lie with your pc.
Remember to use firewire, NOT usb.

I have a computer that has the same problem .. only much worse.

The only thing I have been able to do is to import with Windows Movie Maker instead of Vegas.

No dropped frames, but no "scene detect" in Vegas either.

Are you experiencing problems in the Vegas Preview?

-- Uncheck "Simulate Device Aspect"
-- Don't use "Scale to Fit Preview Window"
-- Use Preview quality
-- Match your Project Properties to your source video
-- Use a smaller Preview size

You should have WMM if you are running XP or Vista. Look under accessories.
