Dropped Frames- 24p

Hi All-
Quick question- Im capturing 24p video from a Sony mini-dv deck for a 30 minute video. Ive been experiencing 6 dropped frames with just about every clip I try to capture. I have an old workhorse of a pc which has been hobnobbled and patched up as best as possible. It has a 1.5 ghz Pentium 4, 512mb RAM, 210 gb hard drive, (with about 15% available for processing), and a Radeon graphics card. Ive cleaned up all viruses/ spyware, and have defragmented and compressed old files, also disabled virus protection and disconnected internet when Im editing and still experience this frame dropping. I suspect its my low RAM, but wonder if anyone has other thoughts?
Thanks!
-Mike

I would do a search for "dropped frames" on this forum - it's been discussed a bunch. Those computer specs look fine - lots of people using even less able machines with no dropped frames. The 2 suggestions you will probably get are to check for hardware conflicts and to not capture to your system drive, also stop any background tasks that are running.

There is tons of info out there on how to accomplish this stuff - use the search function and with a little poking around I bet you can solve the problem.

Sorry for quick response, good luck
