Ok all you PC Geeks. I started with Video Factory 5 years ago, then, all the upgrades through Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 7.0 (Have not made the jump to full blown Vegas yet). I started out on a Dell Dimension 8100 - 1.7 GHz, XP Home Edition, and Sony TR520 Digital Camera. Since day 1 I have always had to work at getting a Clean Capture (without frames dropped) and a Clean print back to tape without any glitches. I have tried everything. I finally ended up Partitioning my Hard Drive so I could dual boot. One partition was for everyday normal PC work including video editing. The other partition was a bare bones XP O/S used only for Capture and Print back to tape. All unnecessary Services and background process were eliminated. This setup would allow me to get a Clean Capture in only a few tries and a Clean Print back to tape usually in one or two tries. I could never figure out what was causing the issues. I always had to sit and watch the print back to tape to make sure it was Clean. It wasted my time, but it was workable.
In December 2005 I bought a new PC: Dell XPS 400 3GHz, 3gig of Ram with XP Media edition. I figured my Capture and Print to tape issues would be gone. No such luck, same issues. So I set up the same work-a-round – Dual boot and just continued to brut force it.
Now I have plunged in to the world of HDV. I bought a new Sony Camera - FX7 (I love the Camera!). Using HDVSplit to Capture (Because it tells me if I have dropped any frames). I am able to get a Clean Capture after only a few tries. But so far I have not been able to get a Clean Print back to tape! I am still using the Dual Boot with minimal services running. I watch performance on Task Manager and when a Glitch does occur, there is not even a blip on the graph. The machine looks like it is running idle. Even if I look at the System Monitor graphs when a Glitch occurs, nothing spikes. I don’t believe it is the Software (Vegas) or the Camera, I am even on a different PC then when I first started. I have come to the conclusion it has to be some interrupt that is hitting me. So my question is,…. How do I figure this out? Are there any monitoring tools that can trace the Stream from Disk through the IEEE 1394 board out to the Camera? How can I monitor interrupts? What can I do? I know most people don’t have this problem (or don’t seem too). I need to find a good solution. Any help out there would be greatly appreciated!!!
