dropped frames everywhere!!

heidibluiz wrote on 12/2/2002, 11:04 PM
Help please! No matter if I'm capturing, viewing on external monitor, or recording to tape, i always get dropped frames and audio!! Both come in and out and all garbled on the monitor and external video device.
It's not the firewire cable...could it be my memory space? Is there some setting i'm forgetting to click, some box i didn't check? Any suggestions??? I tried every topic in the help section and the manual! Someone must know! :o(
Thanks

Begin by telling us what your hardware configuration is--what OS etc. Can't help without that.

Probably should provide details of your system so someone can help. (processor, ram, harddrives,OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 card?, OS, did it ever work?-or did it just stop working, etc...)

not knowing anything about your system....

have you checked to make sure DMA is enabled on your hard drives?

I'm having the same problem - by the way what does DMA mean?

My system is W2K - Dual 400mhz - 720 ram - SCSI hard disks - Firewire

DMA is direct memory access. I had the same problem until I enabled it (I believe it's in the properties tab of the device manager). The first capture I tried dropped 78 frames in a thirty-second clip. After activating DMA on my media drive, I've never dropped a frame capturing and only have an occasional glitch in sound when printing to tape.

Yes make sure DMA is enabled for your drives, and also make sure you have the latest DirectX drivers
installed.
Go to Start>Run
and type dxdiag
You should have version 8.1.
If not, go to Windows web site and download DirectX version for your operating system.
