Dropped Frames in Analog Capture

I capture digital video without a problem. However, whenever I attempt to capture analog video, I drop frames (lots). My system is a P4 / 2.53 / 512 w/ 80GB hard drive. I read that the best thing to do was to install a hard drive dedicated to capturing. I did - a WD 80GB, w/ 8mb cache - and I still have the same problem. I am not real computer literate and I am new to video editing. Any suggestions?

Can you fill us in on your capture process? What capture hardware are you using? How are you connecting the video source to the computer? Are you capturing with Sony's VidCap program?

I am using a Dazzle DVC80 into USB 2.0, and Vegas VideoCapture - the card came with the computer, do you know how I can tell what it is?

you will probably find that the USB port your capture device is plugged into probably shares an IRQ with something else on your system.. check your PC settings in control panel, device manager, view by IRQ ....

good luck
