Yes.

Transcode the footage into something else (like Cineform) otherwise you just won't be happy.

If one didn't have Cineform. Would it make sense to put your hero takes in the timeline and render out an .mxf file to do effects and corrections on for your final edit?

I have tried mxf and it works great, but Cineform Neo should be good to, and it is quite cheap, and maybe faster too.

Thanks for the confirmation. It's just good to know we do have the tools in Vegas. I have Cineform as well and use it a lot with HDV but I'm trying this work flow on a new HDV project just to see how it works compared to Cineform. HDV falls apart so fast when you add effects to it, Cineform is a huge help but I want to see how doing a Vegas .mxf does

MXF is not a file type, and a LOT of different things can go in there. The default in Vegas is to put an Mpeg2 file in there. Take note, it works, but its more lossy than Cineform.

Take a look at EPIC I (only $45 U.S.) from the folks at DVFilm.

A cautionary note from their website:
Epic I is currently working with Vegas Pro 9, 32-bit version only.
You can use Vegas Pro 9 32 bit version on 64-bit operating systems.

I purchased Epic I and I am very satisfied!

Did my first corporate job with mixed footage from my EX1 (interviews) and b-roll from the Canon T2i. Had also several fx on every shots. Rendered without any problems.

Support is really great also.
