DSR DU1 - How to import clips into PC

I brought a new DSR DU1 unit and recorded video in it. Now I am trying to import the video file into my PC via firewire. But Sony Vegas Pro 8 is not recognizing the unit. Can someone tell me what setup I am missing here? When I plugged in the DSR DU1, the Vegas Pro 8 pop up but I cannot view or import the clips in the media explorer window. In the windows explorer it is showing as 'Sony DV Tape Recorder/Player'

In Vegas or Ppro you would import the files in the DU1 not capture them. The video is already "captured". Probably best to first copy the files from the DU1 into a folder on a local HDD.

According to what I've read you can also get the unit to behave as though it were a VCR. I can't see much purpose to that when you can just copy the files directly.

Hi Bob, I am trying to import the files from DU1 into my local hard drive. But the DU1 is not listed as a nedia drive inorder to choose the files in it.

Does the DU1 manual give any clues?

The other Sony HDD recorder that I've used simple appears as a disk drive under Windows and I can just drag the files accross using Windows. However that unit records HDV so to get the files joined correctly I have to use Vegas's Import function.

You should not need that for this unit as it's recording DV. You might have to switch modes in the unit. It seems ti can looks like a AVC unit or an external hard disk. Try the later mode.
