During HDV editing with Vegas 6d I noticed:
-if rendering projects to WMV or DIVX 6.1 (and above) Vegas makes full use of my Athlon X2 4400 processor
-for the video preview Vegas makes (as expected) no use of the Dual Core at all (using only one processor, that means 50% of the CPU power). I use the Cineform intermediate files, still Vegas is abysmal slow in this regard. Only because Vegas is much more flexible and reactive I am not changing to Premiere CS, Edius or Liquid. I hope version 7 will do better.

Thanks for the info. So, as I pretty much expected, there wont be a huge performance increase, but its probably worth getting dual core now and hopefully the next version will make better use of it.
Eventhough dual core is not fully utilized in Vegas right now, the situation may change and also dual core setup will leave the other core to take care of all the other things happening on your PC, such as networking, virus scanner, etc...
Hmm, For daw-work (audio), I'm seeing incredible performance, more than double plugin count, and smooth quick renders.
Same with video work. barring preview (video) i think vegas is taking advantage of my x2 4400.
