I think I'll wait for ther Pioneer dual layer writer to come out this fall. Does the DVD -R blank have to be a special dual layer blank or will any current DVD -R blank work?

Will clients need a special player to play these discs?

It is special dual layer media, see
verbatim

A special player is not required - the ability to play dual layer discs is part of the DVD player specification.

I'm guessing that individual players and media will cause problems, similar or worse than we have seen with DVD single layer.

From what I understand is that the DVD-R specs for Dual Layered isnt even finalized just yet. In this case DVD+R/RW makes it to market first and will be faster to write to (DVD+R DL 2.4X and DVD-R DL 1X). Though I could be wrong.

I'd go with this on over the Sony.

Also note at the bottom of the article that 16X DVD-R will be out by June!

The Verbatum article is all about +R media, what about -R DL media? Any information upcoming on that?

Look at the link I posted above, it's for the -R DL stuff from Pioneer.

Can I make an active link? This board appears not to support UBB code.

@Jsnkc,
How to make an active link? Thanks

What's UBB? Anyway you need to put the html code for a link into the text you post.
So you can see it, Let X = left angle bracket and Z = right angle bracket; everthing else literal...

Great Jsnkc, I'm a firm Pioneer burner user. I'll have my A05 until the DL buner comes out. I have also heard the Nero is going to support DL burning as is DVDlab as well. When will we know if DVDA 2 will do that?

With the latest Nero update, dual layer burining is now possible. All we need now is the drives. Encore already supports dual layer.
