Dual Layer DVD compatibility issues...

I recently made a Graduation DVD and gave it to 25 people, so far it has been a week and I have 2 people complaining that it sticks in the middle during playback.

I then performed an experiment, I tested multiple discs on 3 different dvd players: 1) older samsung, 2) older sony and a 3) newer sony. The samsung would skip on some of the discs, while not on others. The older sony skipped on some discs and not on others. The newer sony DVD player didn't appear to have a problem.

Has anyone noticed fallout from using DVD +DL discs?

I do not plan on using them any longer since it appears there is more of a compatibility issue than I thought.

Thanks

What you describe sounds like a media issue. What brand of media did you use? If you have Nero and run the DVD thru the DVD Error test, do you see lots of errors?

I used Verbatim and Fuji DVD+DL media, both had the same issues when I played them back on the various DVD players.

Well, all I can suggest is the "usual suspects" - if you have Nero, do the error test. You might check www.crdinfo.com and see if they have a review of your burner to see how well it rates at burning. Make sure you aren't doing too high of a bitrate when encoding, and you may want to consider doing CBR encoding rather than VBR (assuming you did VBR).

In all cases, if you do any testing, just change one parameter at a time.

Or, you can do as you originally thought, just stick with SL media.

Sorry to not be of more help. The DL disks I've had occasion to burn have done fine in the 2 of my players.
