Dual Monitor Setup in VP

CJB wrote on 8/9/2014, 11:20 AM
How are you setting up your dual monitor system?

I am currently undocking my preview window from my main window and filling up the second monitor with it. I have set up the "preview device" to the second monitor. Is there anyway to play continuously to the preview device rather than the preview window. I need the controls for that but don't really want to have to bounce back and forth between an unneeded window and the preview device. Any special settings to optimize the experience?

Thanks,

c

Options >> Preferences >> Preview Device >> "DEVICE" and pick off your Windows Graphics Card

Hit Apply! - Yeah don't forget to Click on the External Monitor Icon on the internal Preview Toolbar.

If you use 'quick sync' does not one of the monitors need to be connected to the on board graphics.
The 'Window ' content can be distributed to either monitor.

That doesn't work. At least not for me. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
I have 3 monitors and when I click on "external monitor" It comes up over top of my main window (over top of Vegas). I can't seem to direct it to a select monitor. The best I have been able to do is undock the internal preview monitor, move it to the select monitor and enlarge it to the full monitor.

Rob, that's sad. This is the same procedure I've used way back on WinMillenium > XP and now Win7.

I do have my External (2nd Monitor) connected directly on its OWN video port. I also have a F/W port going out to a CRT via a DV>AV. All options work for me.

Yes I CAN spread as you the Preview BIG on the 2nd Screen, but I have this Video on External Alt+Shift+4.

Rob? How about physically unplugging two monitors and physically swapping them around?

You have:

MON1 <>MON2<>MON3

And from what you've said you want External on MON2, for example. Can your VidCard support this action?

You should be able to also select the desired monitor from here

All monitors must be recognized by Windows and you should extend your desktop to all monitors or at least the one you want to use for external preview.

Smoke... You're the man!

I didn't even notice that box down there, but it works!

I've noticed also that if I uncheck "Display frames in Video Preview window during playback" in preview device preferences, that the playback on my preview device freezes.
Rob Franks wrote on 8/9/2014, 2:29 PM
Yes.
If you uncheck BOTH that and "recompress edited frames" then it freezes up. Leave "recompress....." checked and you should get a blank internal preview on playback with the words "Preview on external monitor" and below that "frames recompressed"

I wish you could simply shut the internal preview window completely because you really don't need it with external monitor (waste of screen real estate) but it seems that if you close the internal preview down then the external stops working too

There also doesn't seem to be a way to default to external monitor. Once you close Vegas and open again it goes back to internal preview and you have to click on "external" again.

You can also DESELECT one as a monitor for your normal Windows Desktop, and save it exlusively for preview. I think.

I've shrunk the preview window to a super small size such that it has no picture just controls (even got rid of transport). I docked this below my volume controls. It is annoying that you can't default to show preview device always. my status bar shows the preview window display with 0x0x32.
