I tried just that. Thought that I'd have the 19" as the Main and my 17" as the right.
Now, this is just me, and other people are a lot smarter than I am, but I found going from Left Monitor to Right, with the jump in size, REALLY confusing and awakard. So much so that I went out an purchased another 19" within a week. But that's just my personal experience and taste.

Usually preference is dual monitors of the same size. If you can stay with the same brand that's better as well as each brands lcd tends to be just a bit different. Dual 17" should be really nice for you. Not that a 19" won't work with a 17" but symetry and aesthetics can play a part as well.

I recently dumped a 20" in favor of dual 15's. Linearally, they work better for me than 17", but 17" would be quite nice in some situations. I use a 14" external monitor, so 15" LCD's fit sweetly next to them.

I used a 19" main monitor and a 17" secondary monitor for awhile and it worked fine. But once I went to dual 19" monitors, things just seemed to flow much better. Once you go dual monitor with Vegas there's no goin back. It's great.

Will the preview on external TV monitor function of Vegas still work if you have dual monitors?
Spot|DSE wrote on 9/11/2004, 8:08 PM
Yes, it will. Vegas doesn't use the video card in any way for external previewing. That's a 1394 bus resource.

I have also the Matrox P750, and I love that card. However, the overlay function does not work with Vegas, as it does with Premiere or Uleads Mediastudio. But dual or tripple head monitor with that card is great.

I use a 19" and 17" combination, 19" at 1600x1200, and the 17" at 1280x1024, works great for me. i use my 17" on the left with the start menu/taskbar and use the 19" as a workspace. A tool called ultramon is great for extending the taskbar and adding advanced multi-monitor configuration.

OK -My setup consists of 4 screens :

1/- Outer Right: PAL TV for online monitoring. This gets its "feed" from an R/F outlet on the end of a line of a VHS-VCR ... Also monitoring for the Football & Cricket - Very Important! Plus the option to record any neat artwork/graphics coming across the air waves - The BBC is a really good Tutor!

2/- Front and Centre: 2x 17" Samsung SyncMasters. This are the editing platform/monitors. Now with V5 and the fabulous ALT+D Workspace facility the screens have come into their own. I now have workspaces for Initial Project assembly; FX creation; Pan/Crop; MultiTrack "Blue Water" space; "2 Vegas Instance Setup" and I'm experimenting with an "Audio Studio" setup. I really can't stress enough how important this new feature of ALT+D has been for me. I'm not wasting time and creative flow "shushing" and dragging stuff around the screen and getting in a real mess, but now I can quickly ALT+D to another "view" of a the same project - this ALT+D will make your duallies come into their own.

4/- Outer left: A 15" Sony flattie which is hooked up to a standard Compaq on which I'm typing this - Needless to say it is this which is connected to the internet and physically/non-networked with and isolated from my edit setup!

So all 4 displays are in line, with the outers - TV and Sony - just slightly angled towards me. All have a horizontal centre line at about 15° below my eyeline, leaving my head and neck vertical .. . I can just lower my eyes. Distance is about 2' from tip of my nose. I'm really very happy with this setup and hope the detail above will assist.

Best regards,

Grazie

I use a 19" CRT and a 17" CRT monitor (plus an NTSC external monitor)/

Windows XP lets you set the resolution of both monitors independently. This helps allleviate the "jump" in sizes. I have the 19" set to 1280 X 1024 and the 17" set to 1152 X 864. I'm using 120 dpi fonts (in Advanced display properties) on both screens. This seems to keep the fonts the same size from screen to screen.

I'm also using a separate computer to access the internet, but I'm using a KVM switch to move from one to the other, so I only have three monitors in front of me.
