Dual processors

A quick forum search reveals that there is some disagreement over dual vs. single processors. I occasionally run multiple instances of V4, simultaneously with PS and/or PSP, so doesn’t it make sense to go with a dual proc workstation?

In a parallel topic here, some have suggested using more than one computer running Vegas so they can continue to edit while another project renders. Forgive my ignorance but it seems to me that a dual proc workstation is cheaper and uses less real estate than two machines. Also, factor in the cost of needing two registered copies of V4.

JL,

I think you have answered you own question.

Dualies are really good, I can render two Vegas projects and still do other work.

Vegas will make use of multiple processors and hyperthreading (despite what you read how well V uses them depends on the project - you wil not get x2 performance, depends on the project maybe 1.3 - .1.5 but the whole idea is to leave some horsepower), if you have dual Xeons with hyperthreading you get the best of both for Vegas and other apps you will have in an NLE system.

Two systems means you have to copy files, think about different versions of the same file, copy stuff between systems.......

I had not thought about the license issue.

Good point.
