Just got Movie Studio HD Platinum.. DV video capture had 400 dropped frames in 2 minutes of video and audio was like slow-motion... Capturing worked fine in Adobe Premiere Elements 9.. What's different here ? System is XP, SP3, Pentium D, dual 2.8Ghz proc, 3GB RAM.. File is going to dedicated 1TB internal drive.. Need advice!
Thanks!

You most likely have an EIDE internal drive.
You most likely have DMA disabled (enable in Device Manager).
If you have an ATAPI device attached as a slave (CD or DVD ROM) on the same IDE channel, attach it elsewhere.

This advice will fix 99% of all "dropped frames" problems on EIDE drives.

You should also ensure that this second drive is properly set up in the BIOS as well as the operating system.

In other words, most new hardware can be installed simply by starting up your computer and letting Windows find it. But, with a second hard drive, unless you've gone into the BIOS and set it up, it will function very poorly.

To enter the BIOS, start up your computer and, at the logo screen (before Windows starts to boot) press F1, ESC or whatever your particular brand of computer indicates you do to enter Set-Up.

In Set-up, make sure your new drive is selected as your second drive -- not just set to Auto.

When I used to do captures using a Pyro A/V Link in Windows XP and the DV capture app, I always got dropped frames. It was pretty much guaranteed no matter what I did.

When I upgraded to a new system using Vista 64-bit, and using the same capture device, I had zero dropped frames.

There are a few things that point to what could be at fault (whether by itself or a magic combination): The hardware support in the OS, the hardware in the computer itself (like chipset, motherboard, etc.) and the software.

Since I was using the same software and hardware to capture, that ruled that out. The only things that changed were the OS and the computer hardware. My advice would be to try MS HD Platinum on a different system to see if it still happens.

The drive is a SATA.. Capturing to this drive with Adobe PE 9 works fine.. Is there a capture setting that I'm overlooking?.. The footage previews very choppy & audio is sluggish and way out-of-sync.. Thanks for helping!
