DV Capture of analog pass-through

I've got a Sony DV camera that supports pass-through of analog video on the 1394 interface. I want to capture some Hi8 tapes from old camcorder.

The pass-through works great, I can actually briefly see the analog video in the preview window on the computer.

Unfortunately, every time I try to capture in VV3, the capture program uses the transport controls to start tape playback on the DVC, overriding the signal from the analog deck.

Any ideas?

I haven't tried pulling the DV tape out, I'll give that a try this evening.

in the preferences make sure dv device is NOT checked
when you capture dv--make sure it is checked
when capturing analog--make sure it is NOT checked
