DV capture stopped working

Hello, all,

I have previously been capturing DV over firewire from my Canon cameras and it has malfunctioned. Never had any problems with it before.

The tape transport controls function just fine, and the software interface acts like it did previously, except that the tape position time doesn't increment smoothly and the video capture time doesn't increment at all.

This computer is also used for my audio studio with Sonar 5 and DirectPro 24/96 cards. However, this problem has never existed before and it's from a hard boot, so no other applications are running.

If anyone has an idea what to look at, your help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, and
Best regards,

Bill

does the camera play back tc smoothly?

have you tried other tapes?

have you tried recording a new tape and see if it still occurs?

my experience with 'bad' tc has always ben on the camera side....

Thanks for the response....

Well slap me silly.

My firewire interface on the PC is a card with 3 ports. I unplugged the cable and plugged it into another port, and it started working.

I will test later to find out if the port has died or if the connection just needed to be re-established, either through a dirty contact or some magic on the card or PC. I hate it when this stuff happens, but I'm capturing video so I'll just thank the higher powers and get back to work. Will post to this thread when/if I discover what happened.

Best,
Bill

I've had something similar happen when using Scenalyzer. But SC gave a warning saying it couldn't connect and to reestablish the connection. Usually pulling the FW plug and replugging it did the trick, even into the same FW port.

I think also that Windows XP Service Pack #1 also caused firewire capture to stop. I know it happened and it was a SP issue. It got fixed though. I am not sure as to the SP#.
