DV Expo East?

Just wondering who will be representing Sony in the Vegas 5/Acid Pro demonstration?
Even though I only have V4, I do have AP4, so I think it'd still be informative.
How big is this show? Maybe it would be worthwhile to schedule my vacation time with the 14th of July to see the show. I'd drive down from Quebec. Anybody know the distance from Montreal to New York?
Mental note: Leave credit card at home!!

Mario

EDIT: It isn't too clear... is this accessible to consumers?

I would say its a medium sized show with many of the major players represented--Sony, Panny,
Apple, Adobe etc. They also have some excellent seminars and lectures---Not a bad show at all.

Montreal to New York is about 15 minutes.

Oh, you mean the city, not the state? ;)

You'll probably want to count on at least 6 hours unless you drive like a maniac. It's a nice straight shot down I-87 almost all the way. The only hitch is in Albany where the road stops (literally ... "Highway ends in 1/4 mile. All traffic must exit." If you kept going straight you would end up smashing your car through the front window of a Jewish restaurant & bookstore.) But a mile later after a couple of loops around exit ramps you're back to smooth sailing again.

And speaking of Albany, when you get there you're only a little more than an hour away from me. So, if you need a lunch stop on the way give me a call. It would certainly be fun to meet up with some of the Vegas crowd.

Hey, if you’re getting together with Chienworks let me know (if you don’t mind). I’m about another 1.5 hours south of him but I’ll drive up to meet you guys. Saugerties looks like its half way between me and Kelly and there is a rest stop on the Thruway we could meet at and have lunch or something.

MyST I didn’t realize you were in Montreal. I just came back from there yesterday. I would have looked you up.

Saugerties isn't bad. That's about an hour and a half for me. I used to go there often to visit a favorite great-aunt when i was little.

We can pick someplace further north if that’s better like Hudson? You tell us what’s close. I just figured someplace along I-87 would keep MyST on course. I use to play in Phonecia when I was in a band so I’m somewhat familiar with the area.

jr...

Actually, I'm in Sherbrooke, about 1-1/2 hour east of Montreal.
I mentioned Montreal because I'd be going through there I think. Not sure yet, I have to get a map.
Meeting up somewhere once in awhile might be nice. There are a few Montrealers that use Vegas I think. Find a spot midway between Montreal and where you are and meet for some chicken wings and a beer and discuss A/V and other stuff.
If you guys don't mind shooting the sh_t with a newbie that has three years experience on these forums. ;-)
I've got all my PC parts ordered and getting ready to jump into the DV world!
It's funny... When I discovered Acid I started hearing music differently. Now that I've finally been able to buy a Digital8 camera, and knowing that I want to start making movies (although, for personal use only, just a hobby), I'm now seeing my surroundings differently. You know..."That could be useful in my film", or" that would make a nice shot", etc.
I'm ordering a "getting started" book. It was suggested by Grazie (Grammar for the Shot). Can't wait.

Maybe if we met up, you Pros could give me some pointers. ;-)

I'm still waiting for an e-mail reply about the specifics on this expo. I'd like to know if it's a "public welcomed" type thing or Pro use only. Also, how much does it cost to get in.

Either way, maybe it would be fun to spend a couple of days of my vacation time down in your area. Any mountain bike trails around there?? :-)

Lotsa trails around here. There's an old railroad bed from an abandoned D&H line that runs right alongside my house. I think it goes about 75 miles into the center of the Catskill Mountains and then another 10 or so the other way.

That's probably about the only exciting thing in my neck of the woods though. We've got some really good mom & pop style small town restaurants, great dinners and pizza, good wings, serviceable beer. But we'd probably find a better variety closer to a big city.

It's fun playing international host. Last summer we had a group of folks from my chat room show up here for a long weekend. We had a few Ontarians and even a guy from England. This fall they'll be back again and he's bringing his new girlfriend from Ireland. It's amazing how the 'net can make the whole world seem like your own neighborhood.

One more stop on the trail. Two hours south of Montreal, Five and a half North of NYC. Heart of the Adirondacks
