Bridging the Worlds of 24 fps and 30 fps with Vegas 4.0
1:00 P.M.-2:00 P.M.
Over 40 prime-time TV shows are shooting in HDCAM on Sony CineAlta equipment. Reasons why programs have chosen this format are the ability to record high definition pictures at 24 frames per second creates a film “look” and the elimination of expense of film processing and telecine sessions. But how do video professionals with more modest budgets deliver content with that distinct film look? This seminar will explore the many ways that Vegas 4.0 can be used as an online and offline creative tool for finishing your multimedia projects. Whether your goal is to get your project out as a film print, a high definition HDCAM tape or Windows Media 9 file, Vegas 4.0 has the power and versatility to deliver your project in a multitude of file formats. Concepts to be covered in the seminar include:
- Off-lining HDCAM 24p via the JH-3 and i.Link
- DVCAM PAL acquisition and editing in Vegas, with 24fps output
- Achieving the film “look” with the DSR-PD170 and Vegas
- Editing multiple frame rates and formats on the Vegas timeline
- Using Vegas to create a 4:3 pan and scan from a 16:9 camera master
- DV to HD conversion
- Using Batch Converter to output multiple file formats simultaneously

Sony Professional Disc, the Next Generation of Contents Creation Workflow Innovation
2:00 P.M.-3:00 P.M.
The professional optical disc is a robust new storage medium ideally suited to various contents creation operations. In general, it holds high-resolution video, metadata (including low-resolution proxy video), and audio in a randomly accessible format. This presentation will cover the basic technologies of this new media along with a description of the family of Professional Disc products, and the Workflow Innovations that can be achieved through their AV/IT capabilities.

Sony Media Solutions Products Double Session
3:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M.
- Session 1: Is there really a difference between DV and DVCAM tape? You use DV tape and it works just fine, or so you think. The specs don't lie. Sony Electronics' Media Solutions division will lead a practical presentation so you can understand the true differences between DV and DVCAM tape. This session should not be missed.
- Session 2: The Jury is In On Tape Longevity. Since the first introduction of digital media, creators and producers have wondered about the archival stability of digital tape formats to protect original assets with minimal degradation. Enough history has passed to permit a quantitative understanding of the longevity of motion picture film storage, but what can professionals expect from magnetic tape media in the digital era? Sony Electronics' Media Solutions division will lead a practical presentation examining the critical questions and concerns of digital tape archiving. For those professionals who have already, or plan to, store their digital assets on magnetic tape, this session should not be missed.

Field Audio Production Techniques in a Digital World
4:00 P.M.-5:00 P.M.
With higher quality playback environments reaching well into the consumer world, the importance of high quality audio field production techniques continues to be of great importance. This seminar will focus on wireless microphone concepts, including the feature elements required to achieve high quality performance in wireless microphone usage, the design of a new ‘revolutionary’ ultra-miniature lavalier microphone, and will also investigate the benefits of digital audio mixing technology for use in portable field applications.
