DV from JVC Everio camera

I am trying to use video captured on a JVC Everio camera. I down loaded them onto my computer harddrive and they appear to be MPEG files. I can not find them through the explorer function, but can when I look for them in the folders. I also can find other movie clips I previously downloaded from the internet, but not these. Also, I tried capturing the video, but VMS does not see the recorder, although my computer does. help! I am trying to put together a mini movie for christmas and I am doing this on my laptop, without the manual. Thank you

I think they're wmp files which you may have to re-encode to mpeg or avi. Super is free and re-encodes most files: http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html

BTW re-encoding makes some loss of quality, especially on fast panning shots on the JVC.

Before re-encoding them with SUPER, why don't you try renaming them? Give a file the mpg extension and see if Vegas recognises it.

I tried renaming the file extension from .MOV to .MPEG and the icons changed from being just a file to a WMP icon and played in WMP. So it did work to some extent. But when I imported the files into Movie Studio there was only video and no sound track.

Renaming doesn't always work, esp not with mov files. Revert to the original names before you loose your video!
