DV Interlacing Problem???

I've got a JVC GR-DV3000 and when I render my captured files to the SVCD compliant format MPEG-2, and play it on my DVD player, it seems to be flickering or interlacing? Its weird..because testing the mpeg file on the PC produces no such flickering. One thing I have tried is ticking "Reduce Interlace Flicker" under the clip's properties - this fixes the problem, but it still doesn't look quite right. Anybody know what this problem could be??

I don't think that is true. I capture DV from my Sony Digital8 camcorder, and it is interlaced by default. On the New Project dialog there is a Field Order selection where you can specify Lower Field First, Upper Field First, or None (Progressive). For DV output, Lower Field First is the usual selection.

The vast majority of DVD players do support SVCD. Of 2079 models of DVD players that were currently tested, 1513 supported SVCD. List of DVD players that support SVCD I can't attest to how well they support SVCD, but each of the 1513 players in that list is a link to a mini-forum dedicated to that player model, where such things as playback quality can be discussed by owners of that player.

Can you go into a little more detail about what you mean by "doesn't look quite right" ? What kind of TV is your DVD player connected to and what model of DVD player are you using? Are you NTSC or PAL? Just out of curiosity, does your DVD player support XSVCD? If so, you might try a higher bit rate and make an XSVCD.

I must agree here... what musicvid said is not at all true! It's interlaces cause it's VIDEO... digital or Analogue doesn't matter. And most DVD players paly SVCD.

Hi, as far as the interlace problem, changing the size of the pan/crop box may improve the video. Set the pan crop size at exactly half or a quarter frame size and see if it helps.

The video or frame size you're asking the codec to render may be too complicated to calculate (or something) so your output gets fragmented. Vegas may be very forgiving about aspect ratios but maybe the codec isn't as flexible.

That's been my experience, I hope it works for you,

hmm doesn't look quite right....ummm...it looks like it makes up inbetween frames?? It doesn't look like smooth frame by frame motion. Mind you this only happens when theres fast movement in the shot...when its just a quiet clip with not too much movement it looks just fine (even with "Reduce Interlace Flicker" off).

I've got a Teac CT-M805SV (80cm) and in PAL format (I'm from Oz). The DVD Player is Standard DVD-8035K.

Well up until now, I've never ever heard of XSVCD so I don't know if it plays it :-)
