DV to DVD Workflow

As a Studio convert I find many new options in VMS/Vegas when making a DVD.

What workflow do the experienced users here recommend going from DV AVI to DVD?

Is it best to render to MPG/WAV in VMS or keep the DV AVI format and let DVDAS do the conversion?

Seems to me keeping DV AVI is best, fast rendering (only transitions need rendering) and DVD size is not yet known.

Opinions vary on this, but I prefer to encode to MPEG2 in VMS before authoring the DVD. That way I only have to do the encoding once, rather than every time I want to make a change to the DVD - I always spot something I don't like after I've burned it! That said, I don't make movies that are so long that I need to worry about how much compression will be needed to get them on to a single DVD.
