DV Widescreen not playing back in correct aspect r

I have a friend who is having a problem with DVDA 4.5. He shot some video with a Sony FX1 in the DV widescreen mode. Edited the video and is outputting the video to DVD in DVDA.

Using computer players or X-Box playing onto 16:9 TV's the video displays fine but playing the disc on three different DVD players onto 16:9 TV show letterboxing. i.e. black bars at the top and bottom with the video being squished.

I told him to check the media properties fo the video in DVDA and the project properties of course. He said he did that and is still having problems. Without driving over there I'm not sure what else to recommend. I don't use that particular workflow.

Any suggestions I could pass on to him?

Thanks,

Mark

If this was Vic from VU sound I just gave him some suggestions on the DVDA forum.

It is operator error and not a problem with either Vegas or DVDA.

DVD players need to be told the aspect ratio of the TV that they are driving. It is a menu setting on the DVD player itself. They ALL default to a 4:3 television and must be changed manually when hooked up to a 16:9 TV.

I'm guessing he imported 16:9 material into a 4:3 Project in DVDA.

If the project properties and the player settings are correct, then the dvd will occupy the whole 16:9 screen, or letterbox on a 4:3 screen. Nothing wrong with the way DVDA sets the flags.

He said that it plays fine on computer players and the XBox. The XBox was told the aspect ratio of the TV to which it was connected when it was first configured.
