DVCAM Tape in FX!

Can I capture a DVCAM tape via an FX1 camera into my Vegas 6/7/8 workstation?

I have a friend who performed at an event and the person recording just handed him the tapes afterward, with my friend not knowing what to do with them.

I searched here on the forum and saw that some HDV cams can play DVCAM tapes.

Any recommendations helpful!

Yes, I understand the FX1 will play back, but not record DVCam - The Z1 can record and playback DVCam.

Assuming they're the small DVCAM cassettes, right?

Wider signal tracks to reduce dropouts, and faster tape speed to compensate. Identical DV signal coming out.

But you can't squeeze a large DVCAM tape into a mini-cassette-only camera.

Try it.

Most cameras will be able to do it. The camera will take a few seconds getting the tape speed right (the tape runs faster)... you'll see dropouts in those few seconds.

Some cameras won't do it right.

I should have the tapes in hand in about 10 days, I'll let you know.
