DVCPRO 25 in Vegas

I know Raylight is required for editing DVCPRO HD in Vegas, but what about SD DVCPRO 25?

Is DVCPRO 25 compatible like DV is in Vegas? Or is it a codec that can't work directly in Vegas?

A friend of mine wants to shoot some DVCPRO 25 SD and edit it in Vegas, and he wasn't sure what he would need to be able to do that.

Thanks.

DVCPRO25 is just a standard DV codec. You can edit it in Vegas fine. I have the Matrox DVCPRO codec on my system and I can edit DVCPRO25 in both a Video for Windows and Quicktime wrapper with no problems at all. You just need the codecs on your system.

You should find that DVCPro25 is usable directly without any 3rd party codecs installed, whatever ingest/capture technique you use into your computer. (YMMV) For NTSC there is no difference to that of DV25 (with 2/0 audio channels configured) . It doesn't differ at the bitstream level for the AV channels. There are some flags to identify it from DV25 or DVCAM etc but nothing that should hold up the camera->NLE process afaik.

DVCPRO25 is essentially only different in the tape format (the pitch of the tracks differs and the need for MP tape). PAL DVCPro25 is however different, it forces 4:1:1 sampling but this may well be catered for in the Sony internal codec. I don't believe it has been a problem to date anyway.
