DVCPro does not work!?

I was asked about a problem with working with DVCPro files. Seems not to work properly in Vegas (4 and 5).

I was send an AVI file coming from a Panasonic AJ-SD955. It's PAL DVCPro 25. This file plays fine in WindowsMediaPlayer and several other editings softwares. I have a DVCPro codec installed on my system (Matrox). I can even import this file into Vegas and Vegas says it uses my Matrox codec to decode the file. But the video is completely mixed up then. All the blocks are mixed up and the picture looks like a false done puzzle.

Is this something we should have expected? - Does Vegas usually not work with DVCPro files?

If I render a PAL DV file to DVCPro in Vegas - then this DVCPro file works fine in Vegas.

What was it captured on? I've used Matrox DVCPro files (captured on a RT 2500) in Vegas with no problem.

It was captured via a standard firewire card. It seemed to be o.k. because the files open fine in WindowsMediaPlayer then but not in Vegas.

Did you capture with the Vegas capture tool? If not please try that.

Assuming this is DVCPro25 (and not DVCPro 50), you should be able to open it no problem if we captured it.

I've rendered DVCPro 25 & 50's from Vegas & they opened back up in Vegas no problem. I've only captured DVCPro 25 in NTSC. The PAL thing might be a problem. Easpecially if itwas don in Premiere. It may have a setting wrong. Could they capture an NTSC one & see what happend?

It was not me who did the capturing. I only tested the files created. The guy who made it tried it first using the Vegas VidCap capture tool and - because these files then showed up corrupt in Vegas - then he tried capturing with Pinnacle Studio. Same result. These files play fine in various apps but not in Vegas. Should I post or upload this DVCPro file - maybe just a single frame?

Didn't this come up a while back? i seem to remember something about you needed to have the Matrox (?) DVC-Pro codec installed or something (It was a free download I think) That would be why the file plays fine outside of Vegas. In Vegas you needed to uncheck the "Ignore 3rd party DV Codecs" option.

And while we are on the topic - SonyEPM or anyone else - whatever happened to the Main Concept DVC-Pro codec? Long time ago they were looking into why you couldn't use it in Vegas. (or in my case why it caused Vegas to crash)

I have this one installed and it is used by Vegas to decode the file. But no way.
