I am having trouble with dvd's.I use Movie Studio to capture digital video edit and render to avi master. Then I use dvd architect to make dvd so far so good. The final product will play in stand alone dvd player but does not show up in computer drive. This may be XP problem not sure. The dvd drive says no disk.Sorry if this is off subject of forum but this is best place over the years for help.
Thanks,

Are you saying your computer is capable of burning of DVD but it can't detect one in the DVD drive???!! Is that even possible?

Or are you saying that the DVD you've created won't play on your computer?

Don't use Windows Media Player to play an authored DVD. It won't work. Your computer (or you DVD drive, if you bought it separately) came with software for playing a DVD. Most likely, when you insert a disk in your drive (if you have autoplay enabled) XP opens a window asking you what you want to do with the disk. One of the options should be to play it with the DVD software that came with your computer.

If you haven't got autoplay enabled, you can browze the folders on the DVD and manually pick and play the video files.

I use WM9 to play authored DVD's all the time. Works better in some cases than WinDVD or PowerDVD (who have an irritating tendency to try and remember where you stopped and try to start back at the same place even if you're playing a different IFO file).

my computer will not detect my authored dvd when I try to play them .They are not detrcted in the drive .It shows them empty.Autoplay is enabled. The autuplay function stopped working a month ago and now only dvd can be started manually.Except the ones I make..Could this be the type of dvd I'm using?

>They are not detrcted in the drive .It shows them empty

Sorry, I'm confused by that - the first sentence is saying the app doesn't recognise that a disk is loaded, the second is saying that it does detect the disc, but it's empty. Could you clarify that, please?

>The autuplay function stopped working a month ago

Have you tried to fix it? What have you changed?

>and now only dvd can be started manually

Which app are you using?

>Could this be the type of dvd I'm using?

It's very unlikely! Have you tried writing / reading a data DVD? If so, what happened?

Auto play functions stopped working around SP-2 time. I downloaded a fix from Microsoft and it did not work. I have three DVD authoring...click to dvd, drag-drop, and dvd architect . Click to DVD made DVDs that worked on computer and stand alone DVD players, but menus are limited. The dvd I make with architect will play on stand alone dvd player but not on computer. When I try to play on computer it says insert disk and you can not open manually.Could this be some sort of setting in preferences?

""t says insert disk and you can not open manually.Could this be some sort of setting in preferences?""
Does this mean that when you press the eject button on the DVD burner the tray does not open?
I find the same thing on mine sometimes (Sony)after burninig a DVD - the burner seems to shut down and can only be restarted by restarting the PC ! but then it works fine.
What brand drive do you have - have you updated the firmware ?

no, drive will open and shut sony vaio PCV RZ46G. yes firmware updated. When I make dvd with click to DVD (Sony Product) the dvd will play on both computer and stand alone player. There just not a lot of menu options with this program
