DVD A -- Missing Parts, HELP!

I'm trying to create my first DVD. Yes, I read the Quick Start Manual, for what good it did.

I'm trying to create a Single Movie DVD. However, in the project menu that is not an option. The only ones showing are: Menu Based, Music Compilation, and Picture Slideshow. Therefore, I can't even get to square one as it is now.

All I want to do is to get the video program onto a DVD. When the DVD is inserted into the player, it starts playing. No fancy menu is required. That seems simple enough. But for whatever reason, I can't figure out how to do it reading the booklet/help menu.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Jay

It is on the far right of the File-New Project panel.
You might have to highlight one of the options you can see and then arrow across.
Possibly due to your screen resolution being set a bit low to be ideal.
Select the project format - bingo. Single movie DVD.

I think you need to make the single movie DVD just using a single Video and audio source/pair. If you have multiple files with video and audio to make the "single movie" you can have them join together using "Music Compilation" - which does in fact support video but works like a gap-free audio CD on playback.

It isn't a screen resolution issue. I'm set at 1024 x 768. There simply isn't an icon for Single Movie.

just seen your symptoms mentioned before and the panel was obscured by the windows border.
Not wishing to send you away just to download - but you've definitely got the full latest install, 1.0c?

please confirm you've single-clicked say Music Compilation and used the arrow keys to move around the window - even trying to go out of the window as it were.

Haven't had this prob or seen it in anything sofo, so I'm just repeating something that has happened to me, & the cure... Perhaps it might give an idea?

Prob. showed up after trying something from Macromedia, a new install of a new version sort of thing, and I had missing icons and such in several prog. The solution was to change my system font in windows, then put it back where it should be. Seems it had become altered (though windows didn't show that), and that threw off the layout in all these other apps.

RBartlett--

Yes, consider it confirmed. I had tried that before posting.

The latest install was b. Will try c, although I can't imagine why they wouldn't include the icon until the third update.

mikkie--

I'll give a shot, too.

I'm creating my first DVD with DVDA 1c and had no problem showing the 4 project types at the beginning of my DVDA project. Sorry I can't help solve your problem.

I'm very frustrated by the lack of good documentation on DVDA. I'm spending far too much time looking for alternative sources of information on using DVDA. I've been using this forum as well as BillyBoy's DVD Tutorial (www.wideopenwest.com/%7Ewvg/tutorial-menu.htm) and Vegas Video +DVD Tips, Tricks, & Scripts (http://thetroxels.com/tts/). All have been very helpful.

I know DVDA is supposed to be a very simple program, and it is, provided you do just the very basics or know already how to use it. SoFo should be embarrased by the poor users manual provided with this software. The manual is almost worthless. If I wanted just an explanation of a command, I would use the on-line help in DVDA. Rather, various and thorough tutorials should be included to describe how to create different types of DVDs.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Sony dump DVDA in favor of another Sony DVD authoring package.

On the whole, I like DVDA, it's just the docs that have me upset.
