DVD-A v 1.0 to 2.0 wanting to recompress

Hi,

I've opened an old DVD-A 1.0 file with v2.0 and resaved to another name. Everything was compressed to fit on the disc in the original files, but DVD-A 2 is saying that the project is consuming 7.0 GB of space. What's up with that?

DVD-A 2 seems to be wanting to recompress all the video files (which shouldn't be needed) and when I try to set the "recompress video" to no it will change back to yes.

Any clues as to what is happening here?

Have you tried to push forward anyway just to see what would happen? Or are you getting stopped because a screen is saying something you don't understand?

In other words....what are the resulting results if you pushed forward with the making of the project?

Don't burn the DVD, but at least go ahead and prepare the project. Then, select all the files in the VIDEO_TS directory that DVDA 2.0 prepares and see what the total size is. The estimates are often incorrect, although usually not by a factor of 2:1.

I'm preparing the project now. To start with I'm getting notices that each video file will be recompressed. And the optimize button shows red exclaimation points next to those particular files. Pressing onward.....

After ten minutes of rendering the estimated time is up to 3.5 hours. It looks like it's trying to render the clips again. In version 1.0 this project only takes about 15-20 minutes to render and prepare since it only needs to render the menus.

So I guess it's not just an error in the estimation. What could be keeping the recompress settings from being changed to "no" in the optimize box?

In the optimize box I have 9 items.
5 items are menus with yellow exclaimation points.
4 items are the video files with red exclaimation points.
The audio events for all 9 items are AC-3 stereo and have green check marks.

If this didn't render perfectly in DVD-A 1.0 I would think there was something wrong with the video files. What could be happening here?

This is 4th in a series so I have been just duplicating the original file and changing content for each new release. I would prefer not to rebuild from scratch just to use v.2.0 Plus, I was hoping to use DVD-A 2.0 to change a few of the end actions and provide a better navigation experience.

What are the extensions of the files that you put into DVDA 2.0? MPG, AVI, or something else? Also, did you just open the DVDA 1.0 project in DVDA 2.0, or did you rebuild it from the original files?

I opened the DVD-A 1.0 project into 2.0. The files are MPG video and AC3 audio. The menu background are PNG with PNG buttons and AC3 audio.

Don't say the only option is to rebuild the project. It's not worth the effort. I'll just keep DVD-A 1.0 on the sytem. And if rebuilding is the solution, then it's kind of disapointing to think that all my archived projects can't be used again once I remove v1.0 from my system.

I believe there is a known bug when importing some DVDA1 projects into DVDA2, and it doesn't occur with every project (in my case, it stated a particular file was off-line while everything worked as expected in DVDA1)

I would suggest to keep this project within DVDA1. Sony have identified the bug and will fix it in the next upgrade.

This is one of the DVDA 2.0 minor bugs. Simply open 2 instances of DVDA 2.0, one of them with the old project 1.0; copy and paste all buttons to the new project. That should do it all right for the submenus buttons too. You'll only have to redo the main menu.
DVDA 2.0 has two other minor bugs which are the following ones:
1.It does not show correctly the time the applc takes to burn a dvd;
2."It seems" that for motion menus, the function <menu lenght> <auto calculate> does not work out properly since it calculates a size bigger than the MPEG file is, what leaves as a final result a dark screen at the end...Just press <menu lenght> <SPECIFY> instead.
