A useless tech support guy named Kevin was not able to provide me with a clear answer about this. All he can say that Arabic is not fully supported!!!
I told him: " Now, if Arabic Subtitles is NOT supported in DVD Architect, then why there is an Arabic option in the Subtitle Language Selection????!!!! It is not there for no reason, right?!!" And he keep saying .. Arabic is not fully supported .. Arabic is not fully supported!!!
OK OK .. so .. if Arabic is not fully supported then what is the function of the "Arabic" option in the "Subtitle Language Selection"!!?
I don't know about Arabic support, but the Arabic Option in the Subtitle Language Selection is strictly a label. You can put anything you want and call it Arabic track, english track or whatever.
That is a guide for the user to determine which track they are using for subitle, but it does not control or alter the content.
In addition to DaveT2's answer, there is a difference between a language being supported and fully supported (as the tech said). The exact difference, I don't know -- never had a need to use Arabic subtitles. But maybe there is a particular type of character that works and some that do[es] not work. Or maybe the formatting doesn't quite work. *shrug*
Point being, if there is any support at all, even minimal, it makes sense for them to include the Arabic label.
Have you tried creating Arabic subtitles? What works and doesn't work, or does it not work at all for you?
MPM gave a (I assume) good rundown in a thread from last year. You could try his suggestions. Another option might be to create your subtitles in Photoshop or similar app and bring them into DVDA as graphics-based subtitles.
I think you are 100% correct ... that is a label, and dose not affect anything. BUT . . why in hell would Sony put an Arabic label when there is no support for Arabic at all??!! This is totally meaningless and a misleading approach !!!!!!!
The tech guy NEVER was able to answer clearly to what is supported in Arabic!!! He just kept saying it is not FULLY supported, which is a misleading and dodge answer!!!
When you say it is not fully supported .... it means that it is partly supported in some way, but the truth is Arabic is NOT supported at all in DVD Arc, thus it is nonsense to include Arabic label.
Creating a graphic's based subtitle is very very time consuming even for small project .. it is just not practical unless you will do a few subtitles.
I tried MPM's way, and it still does not work!! The Arabic texts still comes out unreadable.
I am looking for another DVD authoring software that support Arabic subtitles. Anyone knows one? I am willing to move from Sony's DVD Architect when I find one ... I think DVDit dose support Arabic subtitle, but I need to find a demo/trial version to make sure ....
