DVD Architect 2.0 - Problem with previewing and subtitles

I've been testing DVDA2.0. It's such a great software. However, I've got a problem here. One of my projects rates 5,5 GB. It's made up of a menu and a submenu with 5 videos, one of them a thirty minute cartoon. I was trying to make some subtitles for this cartoon. Everything was going on perfectly, but almost at the end, when I was about to finish those subtitles, the application crashed at a certain point (didn't let me play the timeline, neither put some more subtitles). A screen poped up saying: an error occurred during the current operation. An Exception has occurred. This is what I got among the details:

I thought this problem was related with the size of the project, what of course wouldn't be any problem because I've burned the same project before. Let's see why I don't think it's a problem related to the project size: after choosing prepare and burn, the application says the generated video file is too big. I open DVD Shrink and reauthor the newly generated file. Then I open the reauthored file and burn the DVD. So, the problem mustn't be with the size of the project. The problem "is" with previewing the project.

This same problem (crashing) happened before when I tried to preview this 30 minute file. Since setting subtitles is a process that works along with the timeline as well as previewing (timeline on the right, at the bottom of the screen), same problem doesn't let me set more subtitles for the video file. When you close the screen with the error warning, the application crashes imediately.
I've tried to copy and paste same file to another project, opening 2 instances of DVDA2.0. Same problem happens. Same thing. I hope SONY or someone can help.
Thanks in advance.
PS: an important detail - I DID NOT INSTALL NET FRAMEWORK. WOULD THAT BE THE PROBLEM?

This is crashing in the MPEG decoder. It's possible that your MPEG source is corrupt or ill-formed.

Thanks for taking time to respond
In fact, the MPEG source was rendered with TMPGENC,which is one of the greatest encoders. I guess, there's no problem at all with the file because I've already made several projects (includding the same file) and burned many DVDs. Anyway, I'll try to render that file once again, this time with Main Concept. Let's see what's going to happen. I'll post a message back.
Thanks again for your attention.

Unfortunately, I don't have the sources anymore (AVI files that made the Vegas Project). For this reason, it won't be possible to render the project with Vegas again. I'll try to fix the MPEG file through TMPGENC (de-multiplexing and then multiplexing the file again).
It's very strange because same thing happens when I try to open the MPEG file with Vegas. As soon as I try to play the final part, Vegas crashes at that same point I'm having trouble with DVDA2.0. I tried to open the same file with Subtitle Workshop and everything worked out perfectly. Are you absolutely sure it's a problem with the MPEG file?
Thanks in advance.

I've just tried fixing the MPEG with TMPGENC - same problem. DVDA2.0 crashes.
SonySDB wrote on 6/10/2004, 8:00 AM
The component it is crashing in is for decoding a video frame so, it's unlikely that demuxing and remuxing would fix this.

If you were able to provide us with the file, we could have MainConcept look into it.

I 've just tried to render the file once more, this time with Main Concept stand-alone apllc. Same problem. Main Concept stand-alone crashes at the same point. I thought the problem was really with the MPEG file itself, but there's something else.
I've just checked it out again to make sure I'm not mistaken. I set a new project adding just that 30 minute MPEG2 file. Without any subtitle track, the file preview SOMETIMES is OK. The file plays SOMETIMES well ahead of the point where the application was crashing. SOMETIMES, same problem happens. As soon as I import or set new subitles, DVDA2.0 crashes exactly in that point.

Anyway, there are 3 alternatives.
-It can be a problem with the file (probably this statement is the most accurate);
-A problem with DVDA video decoder, or;
-DVDA itself.

That's what I can do:
I'll try to author a simple DVD. This way VOB files will be created (a 30 minute video creates a bunch of VOB files as you know). I'll open these newly created VOB files with Vegas and try to render the files again as MPEG2 with Main Concept built-in or even tru Debugmode, creating a fake AVI to be rendered with TMPGENC (it wil take almost 20 hours). As soon as the new MPEG file is generated, we'll see if it's the file itself. If there'll be the same problem with the new file, then it's probably DVDA or its video decoder.

One more thing: you wrote;
"If you were able to provide us with the file, we could have MainConcept look into it."

Would you please tell me how I can provide you with the file? Please, just tell me how.
Thank you very much for your attention.

I've just found out the problem: it's the file. I've made a new project containing that only "defective MPEG file". Then, I've set DVDA to prepare a new folder. VOB files were then created. I dropped these VOB files on Vegas timeline and rendered them again as MPEG2. This new file was accepted by DVDA 2.0. Although this process worked, I think this problem is very weird since I could open the defective MPEG file with applications such as Subtitle Workshop and even could preapre and burn a perfect DVD with DVDA. As I've said, the problem was twith previewing and setting subtitles for the file.
Now I face another problem. I'd like DVDA2.0 could create an only one VOB file and not 2 of them. This way would be much easier to drop the file on Vegas timeline and render it again as MPEG2, instead of having 2 VOB files. Does anybody have any idea how can I set DVDA to prepare a folder with this only one VOB file, or any other way to do that?
Thanks in advance.

I've just fixed the problem I've had with my MPEG file. Since I had to get rid of all the original files that made up the Veggie file (my HD was almost full), I had to find a solution to fix this MPEG file with no loss of quality. So I searched VideoHelp.com and found this guide VOB to MPEG...It works very well:

More details, go to:
http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=224833&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=mpeg%20vob

For the MPEG file itself:
You'll need TMPGENC DVD author:
Start TMPGENc DVD Author and make a new DVD
1.Select ADD DVD Video;
2.Select the VIDEO_TS folder on your DVD;
3. Select the Title you want to reauthor or reedit;
4. Select the audio track, you can only use one;
5. Select Copy the clip video data to the HDD if you want to save the video as a MPG file so you can edit with other video tools;
6. Done. You can now reedit and reatuthor the DVD or use the MPG clip with another editor or authoring tool.

Openning the file with Windows Media Player is OK. It has a soundtrack. However, openning the file with Vegas shows no soundtrack at all. What did I do?

Many solutions for this:
1. Keep using the same AC-3 file (the most reasonable alternative) - Open DVD Architect 2.0, <Media Properties>, <Track Media>, <Video = use this new file>, <Audio = keep the AC-3 file>;
2. Open BeSweet (download it for free at VideoHelp.com) and covert the sound from new MPEG file to WAV. Open Vegas and both files (Newly created MPEG and this WAV file). Render as AC-3. Open DVDA, same steps above for <Audiio = change the original AC-3 for this new AC-3 file>;
3. Open TMPGENC, <MPEG tools>, <De-Multiplex>, select this new file, a new AC-3 file will be created. Same steps above for DVDA.

Hope this helps the ones who are having problems with MPEG files.

Now previewing and subtitles work terrific with DVD Architect 2.0. No problem at all.

I just had the same problem. Corrupt AVI file. Once removed, it rendered fine. Thanks for the research and help.
