You export from Vegas with the AC3 audio codec. I suggest you import your mpegs to Vegas, export their audio to AC3 and then sync them with your original Mpeg files on DVDA.

Sorry don't own Vegas. I am only interested in DVD authoring. My files are already DVD compliant and can be played back with ALL other software. I've already used the exact same files with another application and created a video DVD just fine. I am looking for a DVD authoring app this is a little more advanced than what I'm using that doesn't cost $500.

It would appear that DVD Architect has some serious issues that need to be address. I'll just remove the trial version. I certainly won't be purchasing it at this point.

Ok, what gives? I just tried MPEG 2 WITH AC3 and still no sound! Looking at the 'Timeline' of the video in DVD architect and it appears it doesn't import the audio at all regardless of audio format.

I would be fairly stupid if it won't use any files other than those that came from Vegas.

edit: WMV seems to work fine. Any ideas why MPEG 2 files doesn't?

DVDA expects audio and video seperately in its timeline for MPEG clips. If you loaded an mpeg file with the audio embedded in it, it won't like it.

Rather silly since most editors including Adobe products do not output video and audio as separate files as default.

After much experimenting, I discovered that MPEG 2 with MPEG 1 audio does work. Guess I can work with that to see how DVDA works. I just wasted 2 weeks of the trial just to get to this point. DVDA has some nice features, but I find the audio thing a huge issue.

Now to see if DVDA re-renders my video or not. Since they are DVD compliant, it shouldn't.

Maybe you will get better help if you actually post these questions to the DVDA forum rather than the VMS one: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowTopics.asp?ForumID=22

There is a known issue (bug) in the latest versions of DVDA/DVDAS/VP8/VMS8/SF9 etc when importing MPEG files with LPCM or AC3 audio (MPEG layer 2 audio is OK) i.e. the audio disappears.

The workaround is to change the file extension to .vob instead of .mpg

Sony are aware of the problem, and will fix it eventually.

Thanks Tony... Apparently, tech support isn't aware of the issue. All they mentioned was the purchased version has a 'Pro' version of the AC3 codec. So far I like DVDA and it doesn't seem to be re-rendering DVD compliant MPEG 2 files. I normally use DV AVI files and let the DVD authoring app do the rendering, but occasionally, I have to work with MPEG files. And all the newer camcorders (HDD or memory models) use MPEG 2 or MPEG 4 compression. I'm just hoping that the software catches up soon with the hardware.
