DVD Architect 6-Do the skip chapter buttons work?

Cristian Torrent wrote on 12/22/2012, 2:40 AM
After my many attempts to explain to Sony support that if you use more than 1 menu in a project, once clicking into menu 2, the chapter skip function then seems to be disabled, has this issue been addressed in Architect 6?

It isn't as if I told them over & over, I even filmed 3 YouTube videos explaining the problem but Sony really never seemed interested in my issues.

Examples of what I was on about:

3rd video:

I am burning my project that I had saved from 5.2 with Architect 6 to see if I can skip chapters when entered my 2nd menu.

Yes, I find this untenable. I have tried reporting it, to no avail. Apparently the problem does not show up with at least some Sony players (and possibly others) but does show up on at least some Panasonic players (and possibly others). The problem shows up in my Panasonic player, but does not show up in my Dune network media player.

My solution is to ditch DVDA and use Pegasys TMPGEnc Authoring Works. As a bonus for HDV users, TAW does not re-render HDV, unlike DVDA.

Vote with your feet.

Hi Peter,

I just looked, I have: TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5. Does that do the Disc Authoring or the one you mention very expensive?

I am waiting on the test burn of the old 5.2 project using the DVD Architect 6 update, see if it works. My player is a Panasonic which is all updated with firmware etc.

So annoying this hapenned as I had to hold off selling the BluRay version of my films because of this issue.

I recently won an award for my studio out in Berlin, so I am happy about that!

Mastering works is an encoder Cristian, you need authoring works for DVD/Bluray.
http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/taw5.html Obviously, there's not as much integration with Vegas with it - markers/chapters etc.

Well, I have here the same situation with the DVDA6. My Panasonic 3D-Blu ray player BMT-100 does not recognize the chapters, so it does not allow to jump foreward or backward with what you call "skip chapter buttons". My 3D Sony Blu-ray player allows that. So, there seems to be an incompability with the Panasonic players.

I will foreward that to the development team.

I do not own DVDAPro-6, but so far as I know and has been reported by SCS and the user community - DVDA-6 does not differ substantially in code from version 5.2 or even version 5.0b. The only real development since has been committed to 3D.

In fact as has been researched by some forum members- the underlying code in the DVD structures goes back to DVDAPro -4.
The change from Version 3 to 4 was significant according to this anecdotal research.

That being said, my own extensive testing of many Blu-ray set-top players leads me to believe that firmware revisions since September 2011 with "some" manufacturers has led to different kinds of interaction with DVDAPro authored discs. I would prefer to call this a relaxation of some of the earlier restrictions in how firmware is designed to force certain behaviors over disc playback.

It's immensely frustrating to not only be stuck with these bugs - STILL! But also to see cheap authoring programmes such as TAW5 not only be bug free (in respect to afore mentioned) but also offering features such as Pop-Up menus, which DVDA hasn't even given a nod to. There are far more 'professional' features in DVDA than TAW5, so it would seem a small step to cure a well documented bug, AND offer a couple of new features. Calling the latest version DVDA 6 is a joke - it's DVDA OLD.

There seems to be a "Sony brick wall" on some of these boo boos, like the word from the top that says don't mess with it, it's working the way we want it too. Probably drives the programmers crazy.

This problem has been huge as far as I am concerned. The problem doesn't seem to be important enough for SCS to address in a serious way. See previous posts.
That renders Blu-ray authoring with DVDA to amateur status since I always put all the chapters on the first menu page for fear of the "next button" issue plaguing my customers.

But apparently DVDA 6 has:

Support for burning stereoscopic 3D video to Blu-ray Disc.

.....as long as you put all your chapters on the main menu page.

WOW!

Finished test burn of my 2 menu project. Same issue as with 5.2,so Sony didn't listen to my feedback, didn't look at my videos of the strife I have gone through. So, I am making my project to go to market with 1 menu so at least the customer can skip chapters.

Not at all impressed with Sony & their so called updates. What is the point of support? Why do they say write to support with issues then ignore our feedback?

I have looked at other companies to see what they can do, but so far this is the only one that I can afford or for that matter, I don't see why I sould spend at another company just to get this blessed 2nd menu to work, that should have been Sony's problem to overcome.

I basically give up on even bothering to tell Sony what I think about their support & development team as my thoughts would turn pretty angry after a while.
