I have the DRU500 and have burned to DVD-R and DVD+RW. No problems. Haven't tried the +R or the -RW disks yet. I do have some blank +R disks but haven't gotten my movie to the point of burning to +R. Since I can only use this media once I want to make sure everything is perfect before sinking the $2 the disk cost me :)

I will probably stick with -R & +RW media since -R plays in all of my family's DVD players and +RW plays in my player and I can use this disk as a "scratch/experiment" disk.

I Have a DRX-500UL (the same as the A but with in a firewire box). I upgraded it to firmware 10f. It works fine with DVDA [1] on the +RW and +R disks.

[1] except for the known bugs in DVDA 1.0 as listed on these forums.

I have the Sony DRU500-AX. At this point in time DVD-Architect on my machine does not recognize it as a DVD-Recordable drive. I have messaged technical support in regard to this issue, but I sent the message during non-working hours.

I have a DRU 500AX, and it works fine straight out of the box with all the DVD apps on my PC, including DVDA. My only complaint is that I don't use DVDA because of some iisues I have with navigation and text quality/menu interlacing.

I have burnt +RW's as test projects.

On my machine DVD-A will NOT recognize the DRU500-AX as a device. I talked with tech support at SF this morning and support confirmed that the AX is not supported presently by DVD-A . . .

Have DRX500-UL firewire version - upgraded to 1.0f - works great- My older model Panasonic A320 hasn't played most of the DVDs that I created with other software. But with DVD Arch I made 20 minute test disks with DVD-R and DVD+R media on the Sony and they both played in the A320. Really surprised that the +R played. Bought some new Ritek 4x DVD-R media last week, burned a 2 hour DVD+R at 4X and it played fine. Have had almost no problem between SONY 500UL and DVDArch.

I recently purchased a DRU500-AX and have had no problems with DVD Architect. I've burned both +R/+RW disks, but not -R/-RW. My OS is Windows XP home.

Thank you for the replies. It looks like Sony DRU-500AX works fine with DVD-A. My main interest is +R/+RW - and this seems to be fine.

This is interesting since some users are reporting that the Sony DRU-500AX is working with DVD-A.

Problems with my Sony DRU-500-AX have been solved. It seems that it must be plugged into the IDE port of the motherboard and NOT into a PCI-based IDE port. Burn to a DVD+R/W worked fine as far as I can tell.

I have a DRU500-AX on Windows XP. I've been able to burn a video DVD+RW (previously recorded as data disc) using Nero, and a video DVD-R using DVDa.

My current issue is DVDa can't seem to burn a previously written and erased DVD+RW disc. I've not investigated it just yet.

I find it interesting that SF lists the Sony DRU-500 as being dupported ont the DVDA page when only the Sony DRU-500A is supported. I might be stupid but when you say you support the DRU-500 doesn't that lead you to believe you support the A and AX? If I owned an auto repair shop and said I repaired Fords wouldn't you assume I fixed ALL fords? Dissappointed once again.

I have been having great difficulty burning a DVD. My whole computer freezes up during the buring process. I have the Sony DRU-500A with updatd firmware to (g) same problem existed with firmware (f). DVD-A use to freeze during preparing then that stopped now it freezes during the burning process, I can't even alt-ctrl-del. I am left with taking my prepared DVD file audio and video ts and using another application to burn my DVD without any freezing problems. Trying to burn using DVD-A is next to impossible for me at this point it freezes 9 out 0f 10 times. Only using smaller files can I get it to work. I'm trying to fit a 4.3 GB onto DVD is when I have the problem. I don't think its a system problem as my system is very new. I was trying to recreate a previous error message I was getting for a post I put up but couldn't recreate it because of the constant freezing, I have to maually restart (power on then off) to get out of it. Will DVD-A patch fix any of these freezing problems?

I would like to hear from SOFO on some of these supported drive issues. I realize they have thier hands full with this first update, but I want to know what the plans are for supporting the Sony DRU-500A and the Sony DRU-500AX since they listed the Sony DRU-500 as supported prior to release. Will this issue be corrected in the first update? I dropped $350 on this drive cause I thought it was supported by DVDA. I won't be buying a different drive...just different software.
Ratheon wrote on 3/18/2003, 2:58 PM
Well here is something I haven't seen here yet.
I must apologize to SOFO for blasting them on my drive support issue! It had nothing to do with DVDA but with the firmware of my Sony DRU-500AX. I spoke to a gentleman at SOFO support and he guided me to the website at Sony that had my firmware upgrade(see address below). By the way Sony's website sucks for trying to find stuff like this. He also stayed on the line and walked me through the install process which included deleting some of the apps that came with the drive. I would have missed the deleting the apps step. He made sure everything worked ok and we parted ways. My hats off to SOFO support. Thank you!
