DVD Architect input media file requirements

Everything I've read said that DVD Architect requires both an MPEG2 file and an audio AC3 file to operate. In VMS 10 I selected Make Movie, save to hard drive and then Advanced Render. In that I selected MPEG2 for DVD Architect, set bitrate to 7500 (from default 6000), for audio selected to include it into MPEG2 file, and then rendered the file. This created a MPEG2 file but no AC3. I opened DVD Architect, loaded the MPEG2 file and with it burned a DVD. I got no error from DVD Architect and the DVD it produced worked fine with perfect audio. WHY?? I thought a separate AC3 file was required? What do I loose by doing it this way?
