DVD Architect NTSC video stream and Audio

I read thru posts ( http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=192766 ) that Video and Audio must be rendered separately, and I also have the SOFO script to do that, but I was looking if there was another way and understand if this would work.

So my question is this, if I select the template called DVD Architect NTSC video stream (from mpeg-2), then hit Custom, then go into the Audio tab and check "Include audio stream" and save the template under a different name. Would this cause problems for DVD-A? Will it render video and audio?

(I'm not sure why you need to render the video and audio seperately)

Thanks!

If you do that, no harm will come to anything. However, if you use this audio, here is what will happen:

1. The original audio will be compressed to MPEG2 format
2. The MPEG2 audio will be decompressed
3. This decompressed audio will then be compressed into AC-3 format.

When you render the audio separately, you get:
1. The original audio will be compressed into AC-3 format.

So, either way will work. The question becomes: How many times do you want the audio to be compressed/decompressed before the final result?

I guess the audio will sound distorted if done that way? (and maybe not as crisp).

What is a AC-3 format?

Thanks once again...real glad I found this out.

AC-3 (i.e. Dolby) is the compression method used for audio on NTSC DVDs and what DVD Architect uses for compression.
