DVD Architect - Output formats?

I notice some authoring software boasts DVD, VCD, & SVCD output. I would like to have the option of burning VCD's as oppossed to always burning DVD's. Price being the biggest reason. You figure if you are mailing out DEMO's, burning projects, or just 'practicing' and testing discs, you would go through a number of discs (not to mention the number of mis-burns).

Now compare the 2 formats. DVD discs are still @ $3-$5 each as to where CD's are only like a dime each. I would much rather run through a bucket of dimes as compared to a bucket of dollars. Anyday!

-- What are the output formats for DVD Architect?
-- Is there a plan to broaden this output medium?

Thanks in advance,
Lamont

DVD Architect creates DVD's. Vegas 3.0c (and 4.0 I assume, although I haven't tried it) can make VCD's.

For DVD, Vegas makes mpeg-2.MPG+WAV|AC3 for your authoring to wrap a number of files and directories around what amounts to a set of VOB files. You can burn this in DVDA or another program (e.g. Nero, for extra DVD device support)

For VCD, Vegas makes mpeg1.mpg with a constituent PCM audio stream included, (or mpeg1.mpg+WAV if you need this) and then as this conforms to VCD (if you select the correct template). You can then take this into something like Nero to wrap a number of files and directories around what amounts to a .DAT file or two.

The workflow is quite different but the end result is similar.
You might consider SVCD or CD based DVD (either of cdDVD or miniDVD, whichever of the two frame sizes suit).

For non-DVD work, I'm considering the Polaroid DVD-DVR 700 at US$299 when it is released Q3. It is a standalone player that supports regular DVDs, allegedly WMV9-HighDefinition-5.1-DVDs (if they become popular as the hidef standard before blue-ray/FMDs), and recording of VCD 75mins,SVCD 37mins and WMV9 2hrs on one CD. It won't suit everyone, and unless it is really flexible on reading WMV9 DVDs that I author, whether +R/RW or -R/RW, I won't even be bothering with it. Bewarned, DVDs, even branded are said to be currently going up in price, but overall, with the consumer take-up, it is likely that DVDs will very soon be closer to a "dime", even branded DVDs. CDRs might well go up a bit, like floppy discs did until supplied became more regulated. IMHO.
