DVD Architect Studio - burners unrecognized

doowopper wrote on 10/30/2005, 7:34 AM
I am a newbie using DVD Architect Studio, version 2. I prepared a project with Movie Studio + DVD and then opened the project in Architect Studio, to burn the project as a single movie dvd. In Architect Studio, with the project open, I clicked on the, "Make DVD," button and then clicked on the, "Prepare DVD and Burn," button. After several screens appeared, I got to the, "Select Burn Parameters Screen." On that screen, the, "Devices Choices," and "Speed" items are grayed out, so I cannot choose one of my two burners and therefore I cannot burn the dvd. I have an internal dvd burner and a external dvd burner. Both are recognized by other programs such as Nero. I have been able to make dvds with Nero using either burner. Also, I checked my msconfig list in Winodws XP and I am not running Direct Cd or InCD.
How do I get DVD Architect Studio to recognize my dvd burners, so the "Device," and "Speed" choices are not grayed out on the, "Select Burner Parameters," screen mentioned above?
Thanks.
Richard

Don't waste your time trying to burn with DVDAS - if you must, make sure you have the most recent version. Beyond that, burn the prepared project with Nero.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for your response. I have Nero but have not used it for burning projects created with Vegas Movie Studio. Will Nero recognize a project created with Vegas Movie Studio, so I can burn the project with Nero?
Thanks again.

It doesn't recognize the .DAR file if that's what you are asking. You still prepare your project using DVDAS, then in Nero you select "burn DVD from video files" (or something similar), drag the VIDEO_TS folder that was created during your prepare in DVDAS into the Nero folder window and then click burn.

I don't know if this will help but I also had the same problem. I have an external DVD burner connected via IEEE 1394 (firewire) and it wasn't being recognized. I couldn't figure out why it wasn't showing up. Then I decided to connect it using USB. I didn't think it would make any difference but since nothing else seemed to work I figured it couldn't hurt. After a quick reboot , my DVD burner showed up. I still don't know why it made a difference but it did.

Hi CraftyCre8tor,
Thanks for your response. I disocnnected my external (firewire) dvd burner and then my internal dvd burner was recognized. Weird.

OK, but Nero doesn't solve the mystery of why DVDA doesn't recognise certain burners. This is absurd and maddening. And it necessitates jumping through another hoop every time.

DVDA I don't think was ever marketed as a DVD burning program. It is meant as a DVD Building program; in other words, it makes DVD's so they can be burnt and played on players. I don't like that it doesn't recognized the plethora of burners out there, but I would much rather that be the main gripe than visa versa.
The main reason I switched to Vegas/DVDA is due to the unreliability of other software, especially Pinnacle. I have not been dissappointed and can use a 5 dollar Nero OEM disc to burn all my DVD's without incident.
