tiffytoff wrote on 3/19/2012, 7:30 AM
Hi there - girl from Oz in a bit of trouble
I just found that there was a free update for my DVD Architect Studio - I downloaded it - it promptly got rid of the old one and now wont start the new one......wtf? I used the proper serial number but it still wont let me play! I was hacked about a week ago and my ISP reset my static ip address - would this be why it wont work? I really need it to work NOW - any help is greatly appreciated.

Try re-installing the old version. Then try installing the update WITHOUT removing the old version.

I am having the same problem. I installed the update and now can't use it. I uninstalled, re-installed and updated and the same thing happened.

Don't install build 157 over previous versions of DVDAS 5.0, it will fail as you've found out. Uninstall DVDAS 5.0 then install build 157.

I seem to have experienced similar and this is now 3 months on.
How about withdrawing the Update, now I have lost prev version and can't install old one as it thinks it's still there...Huh!

Oh and it was a known issue back in December 2011.

To fully remove the old version you may need to run a program like Revo uninstaller or Ccleaner that will remove references in the Registry. Be careful when doing so not to remove material needed by other programs.

Thanks, I just wonder why as soon as an issue is flagged up Sony doesn't pull Upgrade157, or get the slack bod who wrote it to uninstall the earlier version first. (OR better, find another job...).
Oddly my "Upgrade" didn't ask for a Serial Number - I guess it knew the software was Legit and just added a few files . . . it did say "Deleting . . ." but it might as well have been a pretty picture for the info it conveyed and I couldn't have stopped it, gone in a flash.

I'm still waitiing for SonyCreative to reply to my Support Number, so maybe they really are going to fix it.

Unfortunately (here) I can't simply insert the Ticket-Number and I find how things are....I've looked under Service/Products/Tech/ - they all want to sell. This will be a week soon . . . imagine that you lost yr front-door key - just how long do you stay "home"....?

I may try that Revo -or- CCleaner......Grr. (but thanks TOG62)

I have DVD Architect 5.0 and Build 157 destroyed my install too. Removed the shortcuts and left a few remnants in the Program Files Sony folder. I noticed they released Build 161, yay! However, I just tried it right now and it did the same thing, messing up my original install again. Boo!

I uninstalled DVD Architect, ran CCcleaner on my brand new Windows 7 install so I don't know what's going on with the patches for this program. With so many re-installs, it's no wonder my serial number stopped registering lol Oh well, I rarely use it nowadays.

My situation hasn't improved, although the Software Customer support are trying.... I can reinstall the (paid-for DVD-original) provided I clear out any DVDAS files . . no need for a deep-clean by other software....then after iinstallation I have to go round the route to get a fresh Authority - but that's pretty quick, say ten minutes . . . I'm guessing it's Autometed, if your Registration is correct.

Oddly, I tried a friends (loan) PC running XP SP3...which used to be flagged as OK by Sony, but the original build definately doesn't even start, despite new Authorizing code etc. - Does it need a different code, depending which m/c it's on? I thought that was included in the system...

I read (elsewhere this Forum) that Sony is dropping DVDA - Well I hope not . . . a simple Burner with Menu is all I want - and DVDAS does that most of the time
-er, well it did.

Happy hunting.
