Ok felow cutters..

As my company expands I find myself booking projects I havent done before.
I have a client who wants footage taken from a Digi beta, and VHS put onto a DVD.

She also wants menus and special features on the DVD.
Now here are my questions.

1. Will I need a new card to hook up a beta deck? If so, which cards are compatible with Vegas.

2. What format should I put the DVD on. In other words, I need to be abke to send the original off to an outside source for mass duplication. How should the Audi and TS file be stored for this?

3. I have authored before with animated menus, for this I start at $3000..this includes my capture time. Good?

Ok, that;s it, thanks!

the best most standard format for mastered DVDs is authoring to a dlt tape ..

if it is a dual layer -- its about the only option ..

you will need a dlt tape drive and SCSI -- 2 tapes are made , one for each layer .. you will also need authoring software that supports this ..

second best choice and an option for single layer is to author and burn a DVD authoring disk - you will need a special pioneer burner for that and SCSI .

the third best choice for single layer is to do a 1x burn onto a DVD-r blank high quality disk -- many replication houses will accept these now ..

as for the d-beta ...

if you have a d-beta , you must have some way to capture now -- otherwise that is one expensive paperweight .. if you do not have one -- save yourself a lot of money and time and send the tape out to a production house where they will transfer the d-beta to a firewire drive as targa files or a dv or a qt file (depending how much you want to spend and their capabilities) .. otherwise you will have to rent a d-beta (not cheap) and get a SDI card or a component input card and balanced audio in ... if capturing SDI uncompressed or to a QT file many times you will need a raid system (SCSI preferred) ...

i know what i would charge and it would be more ... but i never said im cheap ..
