Does anyone here us a DVD/CD Duplicator? I am looking for a better way to burn more disks at once to save time from having to burn 1 dvd at a time on my PC. I was looking at the "Reflex 4" model on diskmakers.com. Anyone know about this stuff? Reccomendations?
There are machines out there that will connect to your computer and will burn a stack of disks AND print nice labels on them .. all without any effort on your part .. but it'll cost you.
You are right, this is a slightly off topic quesiton. I use VMS and DVDA for all my productions. Many of my productions are shared with my kid's sports teams, etc...and after a few years of doing this I am getting tired of buring one disk at a time. I suspect some on this site are in similar boats. Was just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with Duplicators. I found what I think is a very good one at www.diskmakers.com, called the Reflex 4. It's $499 and is stand alone. I can burn 30+ DVD's in an hour. On my PC, I'd be lucky to get 5-6 burned per hour, not to mention the wear & tear. If anyone has any feedback, please let me know. If this is too off topic, my apologies.
Duplicating towers are quite handy for what they do. You can get anything from a 2x to probably 16x or even more (thats number of copies not speed). Basically they are DVD burners with dedicated software and hardware. I personally have a 1 x 5 (5 copies at a time). I put the original in the top tray and the blanks in the other 1-5 trays and when tthe copies are done they eject. You need to check what burners the tower is made with to knoww what blanks are compatable. I have never had one fail. Alos I have had a DVD that I have made with DVDA which would not play in a DVDplayer without glitching and when I made the copy it would ply flawllessly. (Your mileage may vary). The speed that they copy depends on how long your original is, the speed of the burners, and the speed of the media. You can probably find a 1x5 for $500-650.
The one I am looking at does 4x at once after you load the original into one of the trays and the data is copied onto a bulit in hard drive. It's totally stand alone and this company reccommends I continue to use the DVDs I use now, Taiyo Yuden, for their burners. I think I am going to give it a shot and get the one from Diskmakers. They seem to be a very legit business. I have found many others, some more & some less, but the components are all thrown together and are different brands with questionable support after the sale.
First TY are great media. THats what I use (or Verbatum)
Second, many of the units have buuilt in hard drives (mine does). You can copy either using the hard drive or not using it. If you are only making one batch of copies (that is 4 copies on a 4x machine) then it is faster just to let it copy straight from the original to the blanks and bypassing the hard drive. If you are making many copies (more than the number of drives you have) it is usually faster to copy to the hard drive and then make the copies from the hard drive. Also you can come back later and make additional copies without having to dig out the original. Good luck.
For those of you wondering if a DVD Duplicator is worth it, DO IT! I've had mine for a week now and couldn't be more pleased. I can burn 20 DVD's now in a fraction of the time it used to take me to do 5 on my fast PC! I burn lots of disks of projects I've created to share with people and the duplicator I got is worh every penny. I'd highly reccommend diskmakers.com to anyone. I got the Reflex 4.
