Have a look at www.dv.com for anyone who is interested in comapatbility problems for DVD (Tests & conclusions on Hardware , Format , Media & Brands . )
Great article. Short answer is: 3.8G DVD-R for Authoring, is your best bet for compatibility (nearly 90% of tested players had 0 problems, the remaining ones played with minor problems). DVD-R 4.7G (Authoring & General) second best. DVD-RW distance third, DVD+RW curretly an also-ran. Where you get your media matters, they are different. Subject to change within a year <g>. If you burn DVD discs for other people, this article is worth a read.

> The article would have been even better if they had waited a few weeks for +R.
In defense of the writer, he did say there was known upcoming technology, and that they'd be updating results as they learned them. Also, with magazine publishing lead times, this was probably written a month or so ago, if they waited until next week, we wouldn't see the article for another month or more.
I'd rather get the information they know now ASAP, and then release updates as they learn more, rather than always wait for the next thing that's around the corner and then the next, etc., until ten years from now nobody even cares about basic DVD anymore <g>.
I've burned and played DVD+R. Works great. It seems the media it a little hard to find so far. I've seen HP media as singles, and 3-pack and Verbatium 5 packs. Pricing is around $5 each for the 5 pack.
