Phil,

Thanks for the note! I just e-mailed Dazzle earlier this week regarding availability date and was told end of April, so this is a supprise!

I am in the process of downloading it right now. I will report as soon as I have some results. I've just finished evaluating Ulead's DVD Workshop, so I will be able to compare the two for those interested...

I played with this last night. No time to post detailed review, but here are some thoughts:

Pros: - Chapter editor is great
- Navigation editing is flexible and good

Cons: - Runs into 4 GB limit with Fat32 (use NTFS)
- Menu editor is very flexible for foreground editing, but is very limited for background editing

This last item is very important for me when you realize button images are considered part of the background. Here's the problem: Let's say the program auto-generates a menu. The menu editor lets you move buttons as you like, but this is only the menu hilite image. The chapter thumbnail is seperate and composited onto the background image. This would be fine if I could go into the background and move the thumbnail, but you can't move it! In background editing, you can change images (background, buttone, etc), but you can't change their placement (unless I really missed something). This is a huge limitation to me.

I've e-mailed DVDCre8 to see if I'm just missing something or if that is the way its really designed. If that's intended, then there's no point in editing chapter buttons and you may as well just go completely template based layout.

Package has a LOT of potential, especially if this is changed. More later when I have more time.

For those interested:

I e-mailed DVDCre8 regarding the background thumbnail editing deficiency and got a response right away. In part, here's what they had to say:

"...We couldn't agree more about having the ability to edit menus by moving buttons around more easily. So much so, that we are already developing these features for the next revision of the product."

"...The enhanced menu editing capabilities will likely be released in 30 to 60 days. Just click on Help>DVD Complete on the Web>Check for Updates to watch for updated versions of the product."

So it looks like they are aware of this and are working on it. For now, even without this capability, this is a great package for those looking for an alternative to Sonic MyDVD, Ulead MovieFactory, or similar entry level mastering packages. Once they enhance the menu editing, it should even be a great alternative to Ulead's DVD workshop and other mid-range packages.

Thanks for the post!
I too downloaded it - needed something better than MyDVD and SpruceUp.
Very interesting, with a lot of promise but unstable at the moment.
All the stuff is there - but previous experience with Dazzle has not been good,
I upgraded the burning-drivers from the Veritas website and after replacing the 1.68 firmware of my Pioneer A03 to 1.65 it can now burn DVD-RWs too.

It falls-over too often in its current guise.
Now, wouldn't it be nice if SF put their thinking caps on about a useable authoring prog? It is the perfect platform to marry their expertise in audio and video.
