Does anyone know of a freeware product for making DVD's copy protected? I have a small DVD project for school and I don't want my fellow students making copies of it and passing it around. But I don't want to spend a fortune on some software to prevent it.
I do not know of any free copy protection software, but it probably wouldn't make much difference anyway. Even the large corporations with all of their resources can't stop people from copying their DVDs. There are freeware programs that can remove the copy protection as well as regions.
Don't waste your time trying to copy protect. First off, the only time you can get any sort of copy protection is if you have your DVD replicated, and unless you are willing to purchase 1,000 copies of the DVD it seems unlikely that this will be of interest to you.
Even if you were to have it copy protected (with either macrovision or CSS or both) there are literally dozens of programs available that can rip the DVD and defeat the copy protection.
In your situation, probably the best thing to do would be to only make one copy that you keep tight control of.
