DVD Duplicator Caveats

MichaelS wrote on 3/29/2006, 4:38 PM
Until now, we have produced all of our DVDs directly from DVDA or copied a maximum of 3 at a time from one of our computer towers. This is now not enough.

We need to buy/build a new DVD duplicator tower. With little to no experience with this, I come to you humbly for your wisdom and advice.

Any ready/builts or kits that you could suggest. The cost is not a big issue, but I do want a good value. Dependability is a must!

Is there a reason not to get the largest made, or do fewer burners mean fewer problems.

Enlighten me!

Thanks for all the information!

There's one elementary question for which I can't find the answer. For example, in a 7 bay duplicator system, must you burn 7 disks each time or will it default to only 2 or 3 copies if fewer are needed?

No, the duplicator will only burn as many disks as you have inserted in the tower.

The duplicator will burn up to seven discs if you use a DVD-Rom reader as a source device. If you use a DVD burner as a source drive and an internal hard drive you can use the hard drive to burn up to EIGHT.

Dismakers has a new automated unit for $699. It only burns one at a time, but has a small footprint and you can do 25 discs at a time unattended.

One suggestion.
If you buy a tower type duplicator get one with a HD and image to that first. I'm certain there's a way to avoid this problem but what I've had happen is the master was faulty resulting in all the copies becoming coasters.
