Read my various other posts about using CD/DVD Speed to test the DVD in question for error rates.

Several years ago, when I first started burning DVDs, I had this exact thing happen several times. I used to send discs to my dad, and his DVD player would work with some discs and not others. Finally traced it to the media I was using. Changed to Ritek G04 (no longer easily available) and also the fantastic Maxell 2x media (also no longer available), and the problem went away.

So, as always, my advice is to first try different media, and when you do, use a premium brand. This site has advice on which brands to try first:

I agree with John that it’s a media problem. Stick with Ritek or Taiyo Yuden and don’t even buy the “value” line of those. Use good media and you’ll get good compatibility.
