DVD Hanging randomly on playback

Need some advice. I have been struggling to produce a DVD via DVDA. I am burning at 7.2 bitrate using Verbatim media at 2X speed. The clip is about 15 min in length. Everything looks fine on preview prior to the burn.

And then I'll be watching the DVD and the picture will hang. This is usually preceeded by a sequence of flashing squares. I've tried changing media and many different bitrate settings. I'm using the bi-cubic stretching default and nothing else is running on my machine while burning.

The wierd thing is that if I reburn again, the hang will occur somewhere else in the clip (it seems random)

My question, is there a "probable cause" of settings which leads up to the dreaded "skip and hang" on a finished DVD? And what might you recommend in order to correct? I just installed 1.0d this morning.

Thanks,
TomG

TomG, you don't tell us where this hang up is happening.

Is it hanging up playing back your burned disc on your PC or a TV top DVD Player?

Is it DVDRs you are burning or DVDRWs?

The hang ups occur on the TV DVD player. I can run the vob from the HD with no problem as well as running the DVD from my Pioneer A06 with no problem. I have been using the -RWs until I get ready to finalize then I burn to an -R.

Thanks,

Last question - are you only "quality testing" on one TV DVD Player?

If so....my knee jerk reaction is that it is your TV DVD Player.

Unfortunately, I have tried both a relatively new Toshiba and Sony players with the same results. BUT... I think I may have found the problem. When I burn at 1X the problems disappear.

In summary, burning at 2X using the Pioneer DVD-RW media gives me random hangs but burning at 1X on either Pioneer or Maxell media work fine. In the past I was burning to Maxell DVD-R at 1x and had never experienced this problem.

Thanks for your patience.

I know some of the veterans are going to say Bravo Sierra to this but I'll share it ayway. I got into a bind with this old 1.2 ghz PC trying to get two two hour documentaries on to DVDs. You folks with less than penultimate PCs know of what I speak. Anyway, I started the second DVD at 8:00 PM and was fianlly ready to make copies at 7:30 AM, one and a half hours before the client arrived. Given I had to also design and print labels onto the damn things I could not afford to do the time to burn at 1X. So, I used my DRX 500 and 510s to burn three Verbatim 4X at a time at 4X. The copies played fine on my WalMart el cheapos and both Sonys. So it is possible to make usuable DVDs at 4X. After a sleepless night I was pretty stunned, don't know how you guys do it.
