Since you said "book type" I'm assuming you want to do a dual layer burn. No version fo Nero will let you set that. I use GEAR Pro 7 for my DL burning on just releast DVD-R DL Verbatim blanks for regular DVD-R Taiyo Yuden for the paying clients and Ritek for the freebies.

Changing burners in Nero 5.5.10.x can be and is a royal pain in the rear. After adding whatever files you want to burn, bring up the "Write CD Dialog" box either by clicking on File\Write CD or the disc on fire icon in the tool bar. In the bottom (R) corner there's a "Medium Info" button. Click it. At the bottom there's a drop down menu that you can toggle between burners.
Under "Recorder" on the tool bar there's a "Choose Recorder" option. Both of these will have to be changed to the device you want to use. Usually the one under "Recorder" first, then under "Medium Info". And maybe, just maybe it'll work. I used to like to burn CD's on my cd burner because it's twice as fast as my DVD burner. But it's the biggest pain to get Nero to change burners that now I just burn cd's with the DVD burner.

Other that this, Nero is great.

But donp is right, won't burn DL media.

People may want to set the book type for SL media as well. I've found that when I have playability issues on players with -R media, that if I give the customer a +R copy that had the booktype set to DVD-ROM, then they don't have a problem. Nero 6 will let you set the booktype (on burners that support this option) for both SL and DL media. A large number of burners will automatically set the booktype to DVD-ROM for +R DL media.
