DVD navigation problems

Hi. I have created a DVD that works perfectly in DVDA "Preview". I have prepared and burned DVD-R disks that work perfectly too. All the menus function correctly.

I am about to send a DVD-R of this job off for replication of 1000 copies. So as a test, I ripped the DVD with two different rippers and then recopied them. The ripped and recopied DVDs were both identical - but NOT the same as the original disk burnt by DVDA. The menu navigation is all wrong. None of the buttons on the menu link correctly. None link to the main MPEG file.

Why is there a difference between a disk burnt by DVDA and a supposed "clone" of this disk?

"Ripping" is not the same as copying. As you have found, most rippers (e.g., DVD Decrypter) will alter the structure of your DVD. Thus, your "test" really doesn't prove anything or help you verify your disk. Others may have ideas on whether there is software that can identify whether your DVD violates DVD standards in some way. However, the test you devise unfortunately doesn't do this.

You should therefore completely ignore the results of your test.

Your replicator can provide you with a sample disc for a nominal
charge. It usually will not have silk screening but at this stage
you are not interested in that.

You may have to pay the existing setup fee when you resubmit
a revised master but who wants to pay a 1000 coasters?

John is right a ripper is not a good test. Your replicator will check
the master for specs (verify this with them). It should save you some
headaches.
