DVD problems

I'm really getting tired of having problems with playing DVD-Rs. I just had someone call me and said that they loved the video the first time they watched it....but the second time they watched it the dvd would skip and not play right. Why would it work the first time perfectly...and then never again? The DVD has no scratches or anything....labels are printed directly on the dvd.

Thanks
Jeremiah

Wild guess...fingerprints?

I'm pretty careful, but sometimes I can't believe how finger prints get on the DVD's. That can stop them dead in their tracks or cause breakup or skipping.

I've also had weird experiences that really don't make a lot of sense. Like a disc playing fine in every drive...except the one that created it. I also have one very weird disc that plays fine in every player, was made in Vegas, yet the backup copy (the same MPEG-2 file) I used to burn the DVD and is about 30 minutes long only shows about a minute and a half if dropped on the timeline. Everything else I use to play it shows the right length and plays it completely without skips. Go figure. Sometimes werid things happen.

Tell us the brand disc you're using, so we can get an idea if it's the disc or the player. Some players are very finnicky about homemade DVDs no matter what. They will play them easy sometimes, and sometimes you have to keep starting it and for whatever reason, it finally starts playing. Some will never play a DVDR. I don't know for sure of any universal DVDR that plays on everything, but you can whittle it down to some that play on most.

Its a premium disk made by diskmakers.....well...i'm assuming that is who made them because there is no other name ...

...i'm assuming that is who made them...

Run dvd identifier and find out who the real manufacturer is.
BTW, videohelp doesn't even have them listed as a manufacturer:-(

I say, you should try Verbatim or Ritek. Pretty cheap in quantities.

ExtremeMHz.com

They did a few tests with different models and with different media. If your burner model is listed there (see the Reviews section on the right) , you might find the brands that will best fit your needs.
That information, along with DVD identifier (which I didn't know of, thanks rs' !!) should put you guys on the right track...

It could be as simple as the DVD player is on its last legs. I've had that happen to two DVD players, first they skip on burnt DBDs and then pressed media will not even play. Also a piece of fluff can get in the way of the laser.
Boy oh boy am I looking forward to BluRay!

Try good quality, like Verbatim, DVD+R.
